The Jacksonville Children's Museum was founded in 1941, and its initial permanent home was at the Victorian Mansion in Riverside. In 1969, it was relocated Downtown, and its name was changed to the Museum of Science and History in 1988. More space and the Alexander Brest Planetarium were added the same year. By 1994, the total size of the building was around 82,200 square feet. The museum is continually being renovated so as to retain its respect and reputation among the city's residents and visitors.
